The much awaited movie The Archies has officially released its first song! The new characters Dot (Aditi), Agastya Nanda, Khushi Kapoor, Mihir Ahuja, Suhana Khan, Vedang Raina, and Yuvraj Menda are featured in the song “Sunoh” and are introduced in the Archies universe of director Zoya Akhtar.
The song, which is set in the 1960s, has the ideal amount of vintage appeal as it introduces the listener to the characters and the town of Riverdale.
The song was written by the creative team of Ankur Tewari and The Islanders, with lyrics penned by the gifted young Dot and masterful musician Javed Akhtar. Tejas Menon and Shivam Mahadevan sang the song.
Lyricist Javed Akhtar mentioned, “Writing Sunoh was like unlocking a time capsule of the 1960s’ rock and roll era. It’s a musical experience that bridges the past and present, celebrating the enduring essence of this iconic period through melody and lyrics. Being a part of ‘The Archies’ has allowed me to rediscover the magic of an era that has deeply impacted generations.”
Director Zoya Akhtar averred, “With Sunoh we wanted to encapsulate the teenage soul of the 60’s. The Archies is a celebration of that era. The song had to evoke simplicity, and nostalgia but also a rebellion and idealism that could resonate with Gen Z today. Ankur and The Islanders are rock n’ roll boys at heart so they nailed it.”
The adaptation brings The Archies to life with an intriguing ensemble cast led by the up-and-coming talents of Agastya Nanda, Dot., Khushi Kapoor, Mihir Ahuja, Suhana Khan, Vedang Raina, and Yuvraj Menda. This live-action musical, which is set in the made-up hill town of Riverdale, takes viewers on an enthralling trip back in time to the fascinating 1960s. Archie Comics, Graphic India, Tiger Baby, and Netflix India are producing the movie.
Netflix will exclusively broadcast The Archies globally on December 7, 2023.
