The Kerala Story, directed by Sudipto Sen, emerged one of the most talked-about Hindi films of the year. The movie, which had Adah Sharma as the lead, made more than Rs. 200 crore at the box office. Finding customers for its OTT distribution is proving difficult for the producers.
Sudipto Sen, the director, debunked reports that the movie received no viable offers from OTT platforms in an interview with Rediff. The filmmakers claimed that Bollywood conspired against them as a kind of retaliation for their box office success. “But so far, we have not got any offer worth considering. It seems the film industry has ganged up to punish us,” Sudipto Sen said.
He added that several segments of the film business came together to condemn The Kerala Story for its box office success since it had become a source of sorrow in their eyes.
The Kerala Story, based on ‘actual’ events, overtook Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan as the second-highest grossing movie of 2023. Recently, Sudipto Sen claimed that he made the movie to stir up 100 crore Indians and that discussions about terrorism and love jihad have now begun.
The titular characters in The Kerala Story are also played by Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani, and Sonia Balani in addition to Adah Sharma.
