The animated story of Ariel, the flame-haired siren of the sea, has captivated audiences for 35 years. Now, “The Little Mermaid” is back on the big screen in a live-action version that topped the Memorial Day weekend box office.
With an estimated $118 million over the four-day holiday season, with $96 million of that coming in over the three-day period, the Disney film is expected to make a huge mark.

It transports them back to their childhood, and this live-action remake provides the perfect opportunity for them to pass on that love to the next generation.”
Helmed by Rob Marshall, the mystical drama “Little Mermaid” features Halle Bailey in the lead role of Ariel, alongside Melissa McCarthy as the sea witch Ursula, Javier Bardem, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay, and Daveed Diggs.
The $250 million production cost of “The Little Mermaid” made its worldwide popularity crucial to its financial success. The movie has now made an incredible $68.3 million from 51 countries internationally.
