There is a Grammy Award nomination for a song that features Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2024. The song is a nominee in the category of Best Global Music Performance. The song, which was written and performed by Gaurav Shah and Falguni Shah (Falu), includes a passage from the prime minister’s address about millets. The PM may be heard discussing the value of millet and the necessity of include it in our diet. The song is titled “Abundance in Millets”.
Artist Falu released the song’s music video on X earlier this year. Additionally, the PM responded to the tweet by saying, “Very creative and will inspire more people to embrace millets for healthy living!”
Indians have traditionally eaten millets such as kodo millet, browntop millet, proso millet, barnyard millet, finger millet, Foxtail millet, Little Millet, and Sorghum. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations has proclaimed 2023 as the “International Year of Millets”. The United Nations General Assembly, in its 75th session, approved the motion that India had put up.
Before “Abundance in Millets” wins the coveted Grammy trophy, it must contend with other songs. Other songs such as Shadow Forces (by Arooj Aftab, Vijay Iyer & Shahzad Ismaily), Alone (Burna Boy), Feel (by David), Milagro Y Disastre (by Silvana Estrada), Pashto (by Béla Fleck, Edgar Meyer & Zakir Hussain ft.
