In a recent interview, Andy Serkis revealed that for filming the Lord of the Rings trilogy he spent a lot of time crawling in private and public settings.
Actor and director Andy Serkis , who is most famous with the face of the creatures he played in motion capture (former hobbit Gollum , the ape Ceasar , the ape King Kong ), is in the cast of the SAS action movie : Red Notice (from 12 March on Sky in Great Britain, we still don’t know when or where) which tells of a terrorist attack on a train as it passes through the tunnel under the English Channel (not to be confused with Red Notice with Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds which will be released on Netflix later this year). In 2022 we will also see him in the role of Alfred, the faithful butler of The Batman with Robert Pattinson .
In an interview with The Guardian a few days ago, Andy Serkis told a lot about himself and a couple of them about his experience in The Lord of the Rings in which he gave voice and moves to the slimy and unforgettable Gollum :
“I also walked on all fours off the set when we were filming The Lord of the Rings. I spent a lot of time preparing for Gollum, often crawling around on all fours for hours on end. Occasionally I met people, with whom I pretended to look for something on the ground. We can say that I was using the Method.
I don’t think I would have been able to handle the fame I had with The Lord of the Rings if it had come when I was younger. I was nearly 40 when it exploded. I am grateful that it happened at that time. It has been an extraordinary time, so many things have happened since that experience and whether I like it or not, that role lives with me on a daily basis. It will never go away.”
