Toilet: Ek Prem Katha of Akshay Kumar is beating the box office in China. It was released last Friday in China. This romantic, comedy movie is based on the real problems of ladies in rural areas without a toilet.
It earned 66 million yuan, or US$10.3 million, in Chinese cinemas.”I like the movie because it directly points out a bad habit from traditional culture, it mocks bureaucracy, shows the emergence of feminism, and most importantly, does it in a funny way,” said Sandy Liu, after watching the film.
“China has a similar problem with public conveniences thought it may not be as acute as India’s. In fact, she said that after watching the film she had to wait for a little over seven minutes to use the restroom” she added.
Critics say that this movie is doing well in China because the Chinese industry doesn’t make movies based on personal issues or in very engaging manner.
