The dark period drama of Tom Hardy aired on BBC is in news for its second season. It is a popular drama series in which an adventurer James Keziah Delaney builds his own shipping empire in the early 1800s.
It is a story revolves around the mysterious James Keziah Delaney as he takes on the might of the East India Company. People liked it much but suddenly they slammed the drama for its one scene that features a rape scene.
This violent attempted-rape scene was massively criticized by the audience. The scene follows Lorna Bow, played by Jessie Buckley, she was brutally dragged to prison and charged with attempted murder.
In graphic scenes, Lorna was dragged by Solomon Coop (Jason Watkins) into a cell, he began to undress her violently while revealing bruises on her arms. After she refused to sell out her husband, Solomon threatened the actress with rape and violence.
At that point, Lorna was saved by some officers who ran in and declared that the charges had been dropped. This scene had gained a lot of criticism by the audience. Viewers those watching at home took to Twitter to discuss the scene.
One of the social media users commented, ”How can the humiliation of and the threat of violence against a woman’s body still be considered quality viewing? Enough of #Taboo I think.”
and the other one said,
“Hate-watching #taboo. Are there any women in this who aren’t, y’know, victims?” another remarked.
Someone else said: ”I get so tired of every single damn drama having a woman threatened with rape and sexual assault as a plot device. #taboo.”
One Twitter user also wrote,
“Why does he have to be aggressively undressing Jessie Buckley as he explains all this? #taboo.”
For sure people didn’t like the way the lady got molested in the attempted-rape scene. However, it seems that purpose of the scene got fulfilled as it successfully grabbed the publicity.
