Actor Tovino Thomas responded to and raised awareness over the allegations in the recently released movie The Kerala Story. The actor claimed that because the film’s makers modified the facts and data, the story could not be applied to Kerala, where he is based. Sudipto Sen’s The Kerala Story, which has been called for a ban in some areas including West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, has generated controversy. The movie has made around 45.72 crore at the box office since it debuted on May 5.
Tovino visited Mumbai to market his most recent movie, “2018.” Tovino admitted that he hadn’t seen The Kerala narrative but that the erroneous information being spread had him worried.
Tovino explained in a conversation with Indian Express, “See, I haven’t watched that movie [The Kerala Story] yet and I haven’t spoken to anyone who has watched the movie. I saw the trailer. Its description said ‘32,000 women…’ And then they [the makers] themselves changed it from 32,000 to 3. What does that mean? As far as I know there are 35 million people in Kerala and with these three incidents nobody can generalise it. I’ll not deny the fact that this happened in Kerala. This might have happened. I don’t personally know it but I have read it in news.”
He further added, “Today whatever we see are not facts, just opinions. On five different channels we see the same news in five different versions. So, I know what is right and what is wrong but I have heard these opinions. So, I’ll not deny the fact that this happened. But three out of 35 million — cannot be generalised and giving misinformation is very bad.”
Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani, and Sonia Balani play the main characters in The Kerala Story. The movie, which was made by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, has been exempt from Madhya Pradesh taxes.
The Minnal Murali actor is now filming for Ajayante Randam Moshanam with Sujith Nambiar.
