The eastern village of Klishchiivka, which the Russians took possession of in January, has been retaken by Ukrainian forces, according to the general in charge of the country’s ground forces, who made the announcement on Sunday.
“Klishchiivka was cleared of the Russians and liberated,” The leader of Ukraine’s ground troops, Alexander Syrskyi, stated in a message on the Telegram messaging platform.

The settlement was regained in fierce combat by the 5th assault brigade, the 80th airborne assault brigade, and the “Liut” national police unified assault brigade, according to interior minister Ihor Klymenko’s confirmation via Telegram. The story from the battlefield was not confirmed by Reuters.
In the months-long battle for Bakhmut, both communities were largely devastated.
Andriy Yermak, the chief of staff to the Ukrainian president, shared a picture of five Ukrainian troops holding both the military and national flags of their country against the backdrop of a demolished structure on Telegram on Sunday.

“Ukraine always gets its own back,” Yermak penned down. Earlier on Sunday, the Ukrainian military said that Kiev’s forces had “achieved success in the Klishchiivka district of the Donetsk region, forcing the enemy out of their positions.”
After months of intense battle, Bakhmut was captured by the Russians in May. In an effort to drive Russian battalions from the city, Ukrainian forces have been launching offensives in the north and south for many months.

The liberation of communities close to Bakhmut, according to military analysts in Ukraine, would enable the armed forces to move from the southern flank in the Bakhmut region and take control of the heights.
