While the new year is still a few days away, let’s take a look at the hottest moments of 2023. This year has been quite the rollercoaster in popular culture.
1. Barbenheimer
The two most talked-about events globally were the year’s biggest hits. Even before they were released, the two films Barbie and Oppenheimer, with Greta’s rainbow-colored artisanal direction and Nolan’s explosive (pun intended) plot, brought multiplexes back to life. These two were undoubtedly two of the most important phenomena of the year.
2. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s speculated love affair
When Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn announced their separation, her fans were left in a state of immense sadness. Fans began speculating about Taylor’s relationship status after she was seen having fun at a Kansas City Chiefs game, even as her Eras tour garnered media attention. Pictures of Kelce and Swift cuddling up on the internet were so abundant that they started a trend for Halloween costumes.
3. Donald Trump’s iconic mugshot
For some of us, August may have passed quickly, but not before forcing Trump to accept his eagerly awaited mugshot. In light of his involvement in Georgia’s 2020 election defeat, former president Donald Trump was arrested (again) on August 24. He faces charges of conspiracy and racketeering. Following the arrest, the mugshot was posted to Twitter, where it quickly became viral and covered the whole internet.
4. The demise of MCU
The MCU has experienced an incredible journey this year! The MCU launched back-to-back series such Wanda Vision, Moon Knight, and Loki, to mixed reviews, despite the lack of news on the Avengers. More than anything else, though, Loki season 2 incited the supporters. All we can do is hope that MCU gets outfitted soon.
5. Jada Pinkett Smith‘s revelation
The announcement of Jada’s temporary split from Will Smith was the only sound at the Smith residence louder than the well-known Oscar slap. Paradoxically, Jada writes in her most recent book—among other information about her personal life—that the slap saved the marriage.
6. The fall of Zuckerburg’s Threads
Instagram Threads by Mark Zuckerburg arose and vanished too soon. Its user base plummeted, whilst that of its competitor, X, surged to over five days after its July launch. In an effort to improve user engagement and keep as many users as possible on the platform, Meta is now concentrating on expanding Threads’ functionality.
