A US drone strike as per the reports have shot down an Islamic State group chief in Syria post Russian warplanes troubled MQ-9 drone, the US Central Command stated Sunday.
The strike conducted last Friday led to the death of Osama al-Muhajer, IS leader in eastern Syria, Centcom averred in a statement.”We have made it clear that we remain committed to the defeat of ISIS throughout the region,” Centcom chief General Michael Kurilla mentioned.”ISIS remains a threat, not only to the region but well beyond,” he further added.
As per Centcom, no civilians were killed doing the scuffle and the coalition forces are “assessing reports of a civilian injury”.Centcom stated, “was conducted by the same MQ-9s (drones) that had… been harassed by Russian aircraft in an encounter that had lasted almost two hours”.Air Force Lieutenant General Alexus Grynkewich stated that the planes “dropped flares in front of the drones and flew dangerously close, endangering the safety of all aircraft involved”.
Moreover on Wednesday, three Russian jets released parachute flares over US drones, Grynkewich mentioned, further seeking Moscow to “cease this reckless behaviour”.
Russia is an ally to the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.The United States has deployed 1,000 troops in Syria to fight IS jihadists, who captured in Syria in 2019. They are in hideouts and frequently carries combat attack operations.
