The United States of America recently returned over 200 artifacts to India worth the price of 100 million dollars, improving the USA-India relationship. These artifacts are said to be even more than 2000 years old and include the loot from some of the India’s most prestigious historical sites.
These artifacts include terra cotta pieces and religious statues which are a part of India’s great historical culture.
PM Narendra Modi accepted these artifacts himself on his tour to the USA in Washington DC.
“For some, these artifacts may be measured in monetary terms but for us this is beyond that. It’s a part of our culture and heritage,” the Prime Minister said at the Blair House ceremony.
The main artifact among the returned pieces is the statue of Saint Manikkavichavakar, a Hindu Mystic from the Chola period. This statue was stolen from the Sivan Temple in Chennai and values 1.5 million dollars.
Even a more than a 1,000-year-old statue of Indian God Lord Ganesha is also returning to the country after so many years.
These artifacts were found in the various museums of the USA and it is kind of the USA to return them back to India and help us in preserving our culture and history, moreover, this incident is also improving the USA-India relationship which is also good for the country.
