By April, you will see that women drivers are hitting the national capital road. The Delhi Transport Department approved the proposal on Tuesday. This proposal eases the eligibility criteria for female drivers in DTC and cluster buses. Even they will not require any prior experience. They recruited only for automatic buses.
In one report by the transport department, women are good drivers compared to men. However, as per the departmental report, only one percent of women are responsible for road issues, including rash driving accidents, and 1.7 percent are responsible for traffic violators, so they should be encouraged to drive on.
Departmental Meeting Approved The Proposal
The chairmanship of the Transport Commissioner and Principal Secretary has taken this decision in a meeting. OP Mishra, Secretary, State Transport Authority, and other senior officials of the same department joined the meeting with Ashish Kundra, Transport Commissioner.
Earlier, it was considered that women could not drive the bus as it is heavy and would not be handled. But now, there is no such prior experience required for the woman driver. Instead, only one year of training followed by a test conducted by the department is mandatory. Initially, they will be trained at a private center. After that, they have to follow two more months of training by DTC, and they got skill certified there.
No Educational Qualifications Required
There will be no educational qualification required for men and women. Only they should have the basic knowledge of traffic rules, signs, and marks on the road. One more decision has been highlighted in this meeting which is experience criteria. It should be shifted to three years from five years.
In the latest news, there are 12 women who got their license and are doing the training at Burari.
