Actor Javed Khan Amrohi who is well known for roles in films like Andaz Apna Apna (1994) and Lagaan (2001), passed away on Tuesday at a Mumbai hospital. He succumbed to lung failure.
Filmmaker Ramesh Talwar verified the news of Javed’s death to PTI and further added that the actor was suffering from a breathing issue.
The actor was bedridden for about a year and was under the medical care in Mumbai. “He passed away at the hospital around 1 pm as both his lungs failed,” he added.
Actor Akhilendra Mishra wrote on his Facebook page. “Vinamra shraddhanjali Javed Khan saheb, behtareen abhineta, varishta rangkarmi IPTA ke sakriya sadasya (Humble tribute Javed Khan sir. Best actor, senior artist, active member of IPTA).”
He mentioned to PTI that Javed’s last rites will be held at Oshiwara Kabristan at 7.30 pm. The actor in his 70s is survived by a son and a daughter.
Javed was in the grab of barber Karim in the 1980s TV show Nukkad. He was also featured in the hit comedy film Andaz Apna Apna, Aamir Khan’s Lagaan and Shah Rukh Khan’s Chak De India (2007).
Actor Danish Husain expressed his condolences to the family of the late actor and wrote “Gutted to hear about #JavedKhanAmrohi Bhai’s demise. This seems to be a season of farewell. Condolences to his family, friends, colleagues @iptamumbai #Nukkadd #Lagaan, and so on and so forth.”
Javed also became popular with his roles in Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke, Laadla, and Ishq. He was also starred in the franchise of Sadak by Mahesh Bhatt- 1991 film, and the 2020 sequel Sadak 2. He appeared in a prominent role in the highly appreciated 1988 TV series Mirza Ghalib.
