The historical film Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal, has become a massive success. It has now entered India’s elite Rs 600-crore club, making it only the third Bollywood movie ever to reach this milestone. The first two were Jawan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, and Stree 2, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao. Worldwide, Chhaava has made an incredible Rs 807.40 crore, making it the highest-grossing Indian and Hindi film of 2025 so far.

What is Chhaava About?
Chhaava is a historical action drama based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the brave son of the legendary Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Vicky Kaushal plays the lead role of Sambhaji, while Rashmika Mandanna plays his wife, Maharani Yesubai.
The movie also features Akshay Khanna as Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. Ashutosh Rana as Hambirrao Mohiit, Vineet Kumar Singh as Kavi Kalash, Neil Bhoopalam as Prince Muhammad Akbar, Diana Penty as Zinat-un-Nissa Begum. The film was released in Hindi on February 14 and later in Telugu on March 7.
Still Running Strong in Theatres!
Even though Chhaava started streaming on Netflix from April 11, it is still being shown in theatres—even in its 10th week! Audiences are loving the film so much that it continues to pull in big numbers. In India alone, Chhaava has earned Rs 601.1 crore net Rs 585.23 crore from the Hindi Version 15.87 crore from the Telugu version. Jawan (2023) earned Rs 640.25 crore in India (across Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu) Stree 2 (2024) earned Rs 627.02 crore, from hindi films. So, Chhaava is right behind them—and still going strong!
What’s Next?
War 2, featuring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR together with Kiara Advani, stands as the most likely challenger to Chhaava’s standing as the highest earner, which was released on 14th August. The film is directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Aditya Chopra serves through the YRF Spy Universe after Pathaan and Tiger 3.
