One of the few female major performers who is recognised more for her skill in front of the camera than for her glamour is Vidya Balan. Vidya’s critically lauded performances in movies like The Dirty Picture, Kahaani, and Tumhari Sulu have helped her carve out a place for herself in the congested world of Hindi film. But she has also experimented with glamour at the beginning of her career.
The upcoming film Neeyat, directed by Anu Menon, will feature Vidya Balan. She appears as a detective in the Abundantia Entertainment mystery. Her first theatrical release in four years will be this one.
“There’s a lot of talent involved in commercial, glamorous roles. You may be doing just four songs and three scenes, but you have to do them with conviction. I missed that completely early on. I thought that if you can do four songs and four scenes, you can really sleepwalk through it. And that backfired very badly. So in some of the films that did well, I got criticised a lot,” Vidya mentioned while speaking to her Neeyat co-star Prajakta Koli on her YouTube channel on MostlySane.
Anu Menon, who previously worked with Vidya on the biopic of the famous mathematician Shakuntala Devi, is in charge of directing the murder investigation. Along with Ram Kapoor, Neeraj Kabi, Shahana Goswami, Amrita Puri, Dipannita Sharma, Niki Walia, Shashank Arora, Prajakta Koli, and Danesh Razvi, Neeyat also features these actors. With dialogue by Kausar Munir, it was co-written by Anu, Priya Venkataraman, Advaita Kala, Girvani Dhyani, etc.
