Today, July 26 is a day in Indian history that every Indian remembers with pride. It was July 26, when 18 years ago Indian Army recaptured all the Indian posts in Kargil that had been occupied by Pakistan’s army. Since then, July 26 has been observed annually to commemorate the sacrifices made by soldiers in this war. Many brave hearts sacrificed their lives for the motherland India.

It began with the infiltration of both Pakistani troops and terrorists into Indian territory. Indian Army launched “Operation Vijay” to regain possession of Kargil. The Army declared the mission successful on July 26, 1999, since then the day has been celebrated annually as Vijay Diwas. Many celebrities who are mainly from sports division has joined the Indian territorial Army and they are:

1) Mahendra Singh Dhoni

The captain cool of Indian cricket team joined territorial Army with an honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He got this rank in the parachute regiment of the Indian army.

2) Sachin Tendulkar

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar joined Indian Air Force with a rank of Group Captain.

3) Abhinav Bindra

The Olympic Gold Medalist and the sharp shooter joined Territorial Army in 2011 with a rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Bindra joined a TA battalion of Sikh regiment.

4) Kapil Dev

The man who made every Indian proud in 1983 by winning the first World Cup in cricket joined Territorial Army in 2008. He was also awarded the rank of lieutenant colonel by the army.

5) Milkha Singh

The Flying Sikh was already serving in Army before making India proud on International forums. He was commissioned to JCO from Sepoy taking his achievement of Asian games 1958 into confederation.

6) Sachin Pilot

The first Union Minister who commissioned as a Lieutenant in Territorial Army. He was commissioned in TA battalion of Sikh regiment in 2012. He hails from an Army background as his father was a pilot in Indian Air Force and grandfather was NCO in the Army.

7) Mohanlal Viswanathan Nair

The only actor till date who received the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army of India. He is a famous south Indian actor. He was commissioned at 122 infantry battalions of the Territorial Army in Kanpur in 2010.
