The DC Extended Universe is still not a convincing film series. After a mediocre start, there were successes with Wonder Woman (2017) and Aquaman (2018), but the two most recent films Birds of Prey and Wonder Woman 1984 did not convince.
Despite this, Warner Bros. is fully focused on new films within the franchise with already five scheduled films. Now it has been revealed that the projects New Gods and The Trench will not take place after all. Especially New Gods was announced in a big way.
Geen New Gods and The Trench
New Gods were to be directed by Ava DuVernay , known for Selma (2014) and A Wrinkle in Time (2018). The Trench was supposed to be a spin-off from James Wan’s Aquaman . “Some of the projects that are part of our DC calendar will be canceled, including New Gods and The Trench,” said Warner Bros. and DC in a statement via The Hollywood Reporter. “We thank our partners Ava DuVernay, Tom King, James Wan and Peter Safran for their time and collaboration throughout the process and look forward to working with them on other DC stories.”
There is no definitive line through the films. “The projects will remain in their capable hands should they be continued in the future,” the statement said.
