The first order to make the police registration of WhatsApp groups compulsory in Kashmir valley was announced on Tuesday by the state government under the condition of highly tensed Kashmir over the death of five civilians in police firing and the spread of this news through local WhatsApp groups. Along with this, the government has stopped the employees from criticizing the legal policies of the app and has said that the admin of such WhatsApp group will be blamed for the spread of such news.

There are many unauthorised news groups on WhatsApp that disseminate news,” said Asghar Samoon, divisional commissioner, Kashmir. “It’s not restricted to just chatting, they have thousands of followers who post news without verification and many times lead to law and order problems.

The government only want the spread of proper and verified news through the public which doesn’t create a problem later for the state just like this news did. Around after a week of police firing in Handwara, angry mobs clashed with police leading into violence and injury of many civilians and police officers, especially in the district of  north Kashmir’s Kupwara.

The government hopes that every citizen and government official will comply with this order and the rumors and unverified news which simmers the public will never be spread again.
