Team India is coincidentally playing all the three formats of the game together as Hardik Pandya will lead the T20 side for the warm-up game against Derbyshire, Jasprit Bumrah continues to lead the Birmingham clash against the Englishmen and newly appointed skipper of India Women Harmanpreet Kaur guided team India to win the first ODI today.
Sri Lanka, batting first, scored 171 runs as the Indian bowling unit got them “all out” in 48.2 overs.
Hasini Perera started well by opening with 37 runs but did not get a suitable partnership as early wickets starting falling for the Sri Lankans.
Nilakshi de Silva managed to score 43 runs from the middle order, assited the home team to come back into the game but the team managed to put up only 171 runs.
Team India, although lost 6 wickets, managed to chase the target in 38 overs as skipper Harmanpreet Kaur played a spectacular innings to miss her half-century by 6 runs only. Shafali Verma continues to perform well for team India, along with Harleen Deol who assited skipper Kaur to chase the win.
Harmanpreet Kaur said ” Enjoying myself. When you keep getting runs, you feel you are in good form. We need to work on the partnerships. We will look to do well. I love to give chances. Harleen bowled well. So did Shafali. Would hope they do well in future as well. The Lankan bowlers didn’t give us easy runs.”
