A recent arrest by the Gujarat Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) is making headlines. They arrested four suspected ISIS terrorists at Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The arrest took place when they were allegedly waiting for their handler to give them instructions. After they were caught the police traced out encrypted messages on their phones, which revealed that agents in Pakistan promised to supply them with weapons for an attack. However, the suspects were apprehended before they could carry out any plans. They had traveled from Sri Lanka to Chennai and then to Ahmedabad but were arrested before they could fulfill their target.
About the 4 arrested
As per the reports these four suspects are Sri Lankan nationals and are considered highly indoctrinated and motivated ISIS leaders operating in India. The various activities, that they were involved in included recruiting new members, funding terrorist operations, and planning attacks using improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Out of four, the two suspects have been identified as Harish Ajmal Farooqi, also known as Harish Ajmal Farukhi, from Dehradun in Uttarakhand, and Anurag Singh, also known as Rehan, from Panipat in Haryana. Both individuals have multiple cases registered against them by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) due to their involvement in terrorist activities. However, ATS’s action on time prevented a big terrorist attack from taking place.
Bomb threat via email
For those unaware On May 12, the Ahmedabad airport received a bomb threat email. But it later turned out to be a hoax. Security personnel thoroughly searched the entire airport complex but nothing suspicious was found. The threat email was sent by an unidentified person on the official email ID of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in the afternoon. As per Commissioner of Police, GS Malik the security personnel at the airport scanned the entire airport.
The incident also happened Last year in August when the ATS arrested three persons from Rajkot for their alleged links to Al Qaeda. They were working for a Bangladeshi handler to radicalize and recruit people for the banned terrorist organization.
