Sharda Pandit is said to be based on a real person. Many social media users drew similarities between Pandit’s story and that of a laboratory assistant at a university in Kashmir valley. The latter was allegedly kidnapped in June 1990 in Kashmir valley from her home and was then brutally raped and cut in half by a carpenter saw while she was still alive, as per reports. In the film as well, Sharda Pandit’s character is seen getting murdered in a similar manner.

Who is Bhasha Sumbli ?
Bhasha Sumbli is Indian film actress, theater artist and Play Director. She is famous for her role in movie The Kashmir Files. Bhasha Sumbli was born in Sumbal, Jammu and Kashmir and brought up in the Kashmiri Pandit’s migrant camp in Delhi. During an interview, she shared her memories while living in the camp.
She did her specialisation in acting (“Koodiyattam” an ancient Indian classical acting form) and dancing from the National School of Drama, New Delhi. She has appeared in one of the seasons of the Doordarshan TV serial ‘Ek Tha Rusty.’ In 2019, she acted in the Hindi TV serial ‘Mere Dad Ki Dulhan’ aired on the Sony channel.
She made her Bollywood debut with the Hindi film ‘Chhapaak’ (2020) in which she played a cameo role. She has also worked as a mentor for the IPL extravaganza talk show ‘Super Funday’ (2021) aired on the Star network. In 2022, she appeared in the Hindi film ‘The Kashmir Files’ in which she played the role of Sharda Pandit.
