Why Actor Shashi Kapoor Cremated With State Honours?

On Tuesday, Shashi Kapoor was honoured with a three-gun salute in the presence of his family and the Bollywood biggies. Policemen draped the actor’s body in the tricolour, which was later removed for the rituals. His last rites were performed by his elder son Kunal, in the presence of his second son Karan, daughter Sanjana. But, the question is why he was cremated with state honour?

Bollywood celebrities like Sanjay Dutt, Nawazuddin Siddiqui,  Suresh Oberoi, Saif Ali Khan, Salim Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Anil Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Shakti Kapoor, and Supriya Pathak, among others, were present at the cremation.

Why Actor Shashi Kapoor Cremated With State Honours?

In 2011, Shashi Kapoor was honoured with the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian honour, by the Government of India. He was also awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2015.

Shashi Kapoor debuted as a child artist in the late 1940s and appeared in ‘Sangram’ (1950) and ‘Dana Paani’ (1953).
