Why is Squid Game Ending with Season 3?
Squid Game was inspired by South Korea’s love for game shows. It started with 456 players who thought they were playing simple children’s games, but each game had a deadly twist. The show became very popular around the world but its road to getting on the platform wasn’t easy. And it took many years to create. At first, Hwang Dong-hyuk, the creator, only planned to make one season, even though the first season ended with Gi-hun wanting to take revenge on the people running the games.
Due to the show’s massive success and the story’s potential Netflix decided to create Season 2. Coming out in December 2024. This season will show Gi-hun trying to take down the evil group behind the games. There will be new games and new players, but we’re not sure yet what Gi-hun’s part will be. However, we expect he will be deeply involved in the narrative.
Once Gi-hun’s story is done it will be challenging to extend Squid Game beyond Season 3, especially if he manages to expose the illegal activities. Therefore, it’s best that Netflix follows Hwang’s current vision for Squid Game. Extending the series beyond its natural conclusion could dilute what has made Squid Game one of the most creative TV shows in recent years. The show should have a proper ending, rather than dragging out the story unnecessarily.
