Police is formed in every country to create its own law and order. It is the police, because of which we all sleep peacefully. Whatever be the festival, day or night, the police is always stationed for our protection. Usually we identify the police with their uniform or uniform. Police khaki uniforms are considered his major identity. The only difference is that somewhere its color is slightly lighter then somewhere darker. Seeing from a distance, people recognize that the police is coming. But have you ever wondered why the color of police uniform is khaki. Why no other color or color was given to it. Let us know through this article why the color of police uniform is khaki.

Why is the color of Indian police uniform khaki?

When the British rule was in India, their policemen used to wear white uniform. But during long duty it used to get dirty quickly. Due to this, police personnel also used to get upset. Many times he started coloring his uniform in different colors to hide the mess. In this way, his uniform started appearing in different colors. Due to this, the officers had prepared a dye of color. Khaki color is a mixture of light yellow and brown color. Therefore, he used tea leaf water or cotton fabric color as a dye, due to which his uniform became khaki color. Khak in Hindi means the color of the padding soil. After applying this color dye, dust, stains, etc. will be seen less on the police uniform. Sir Harry Lumsden, in 1847, adopted a khaki-colored uniform as an official, and since then, the khaki-colored uniform has been functioning in the Indian police.

Sir Henry Lawrence was an agent of the Governor of the North West Frontier and a resident of Lahore, who raised the “Corps of Guides” Force in December 1846. The “Corps of Guides” force was a regiment of the British Indian Army formed to serve on the North-West border. At that time, Sir Harry Lumsden was made Commandant and William Stephen Raikes Hodson was made the Second of Command and was given the responsibility to increase the “Corps of Guides” force. Initially, the soldiers of this force used to do duty in their local dress, but in 1847, due to the efforts of Sir Harry Lumsden, everyone adopted a khaki color uniform or uniform. After that the army regiment and the police adopted the khaki uniform which is still running in India.

BPRD (Bureau of Police Research and Development) manual, the first modern police, the London Metropolitan Police, created a uniform of dark blue in 1829, a paramilitary style uniform. . This blue color was chosen because the British Army used to wear uniforms of red and white at that time. Therefore, blue color was chosen to look different from this army.
Do you know where the first official police force was established? It was first established in America in 1845 in New York. Then there was volunteer policing. In 1853, keeping in mind the London Police, the New York Police also made its uniform, which was colored dark blue, and seeing this, the United States and other states also started adopting police uniforms.
The above article shows how the color of police uniform became khaki as well as how uniform or uniform was introduced in police.
