After the massive success of Joker in 2019, which was initially a success led by Warner Bros.Warner Bros. Joker: Folie à Deux is set to make waves. In this sequel Lady Gaga debuts as Harley Quinn and follows the narrative of Arthur Fleck embodied by Joaquin Phoenix. Now that the second movie is in the works, many fans would like to know whether there will be Joker 3.
The director of the franchise, Todd Phillips, recently opined on the potential of a third film featuring the Joker. During a question and answer session after an early screening of Joker: Folie à Deux, Phillips reported quite unimpressive news. In particular, he said that he does not think that there is the desire to tell the story in next film as it was in the first two films.
He recounted the experiences that were captured on the last day of shooting by saying that it was a difficult day and they were in New York shooting with lots of paparazzi around. Yet, the cast and crew did have a small party afterwards. Phillips stated that he had a tremendous feeling of closure. He implied that once the audience would get a chance to watch the movie they would know that the tale is over. ”There is to be sure a telling of the story,” Phillips said, making it quite clear that at present he does not intend to make a third movie.
Phillips sharing the thoughts in an interview with Variety in August said that he had fun doing two films in this universe, but he thinks they’ve had their say in these movies. This indicates that he has no desire to continue the Joker series beyond what has already been produced. But he did drop some hints about changes.
Back in 2019, Joker was meant to be a one-off film, but its incredible $1 billion earnings at the box office convinced Warner Bros. to green-light a sequel. So, if Joker: Folie à Deux does similarly well, the studio could move forward with Joker 3.
Joker: Folie à Deux release date
For now, Joker: Folie à Deux is set to release globally on October 4th, with an earlier release in Indian theaters on October 2nd. Fans will have to wait and see if this sequel sparks enough success for another chapter in this twisted tale.
