Pooja Thakur, made India proud when she led the Guard of Honor during U.S. President Obama’s visit in 2015. Now the Wing Commander is suing the Indian Air Force. She decided to sue the force because they were denying her a permanent commission.
Thakur, who was the first woman in India to lead the Guard of Honor for a visiting Head of State, has alleged that the IAF’s decision to deny her a permanent commission is “biased, discriminatory, arbitrary and unreasonable.”
The Armed Forces Tribunal has asked the IAF to respond in four weeks.
During his trip, Obama said that one of his “favourite things” during his trip was to “see the incredible Indian women in the armed forces, including the person who commanded the guard that greeted me when I arrived.”
It is remarkable and is a sign of great strength and progress
It feels good that we have been able to achieve our aim of giving him a befitting Guard of Honour. I am glad that he has appreciated.
