I simply believe in a theory, “Meninism” is the reason we need Feminism. But, what I want to say is men’s rights are just as important and relevant as women’s rights. I will focus on our country, India.
False rape claims
We, unfortunately, caught up in a system that seemed to care little about the evidence and a lot of branding men as a criminal. The false allegations of rape and it’s one that some argue stems directly from the 2012 Delhi gang rape and it’s really unfortunate.
The Delhi Commission of Women (DCW) in 2014 revealed a report which showed that 53.2% of the rape cases filed between April 2013 and July 2014 in Delhi were found “false”.
“2,753 complaints of rape, only 1,287 cases were found to be true, and the remaining 1,464 cases were found to be false.”
Actually, the definition of rape has changed so much and anything and everything is reported as rape.
Men’s rights movement in India
Our system should be gender-neutral legislation and promotes the repeal of laws that are considered biased against men.We have seen cases when anti-dowry laws in India are being misused to harass husbands which ascribed this to the high suicide rate among married men in India, which is almost twice that of women.
- Divorce and child custody laws are biased against men.
- The frequency of domestic violence against men has increased in recent years.
- Many rape cases go unreported as men feel too ashamed to report it.
- Sexual harassment laws in India are unfair to men.
Even, Supreme court reported that Indian women were filing inaccurate claims of domestic violence.
India’s law should recognise that men can be raped too
Unfortunately, Section 375 of the Indian Penal Code stands, rape is something that only a man can do to a woman. Why India’s law doesn’t recognise that men can be raped too?
