World Cancer Day is organized every year on 4 February. So that awareness about cancer can be spread around the world. This year’s theme is ‘I am and I will’.
On World Cancer Day, the government organizes various programs on this deadly disease around the world. Also, there are many Bollywood celebrities who have fought and won cancer. Among them, the names of Bollywood actress Sonali Bendre, Manisha Koirala and Lisa Ray come to prominence. Let’s know about these Bollywood celebrities …
#1 Manisha Koirala- Ovarian Cancer
Manisha Koirala made her Bollywood debut with Saudagar and also her song ‘Ilu Ilu’ became very popular. The audience also liked her film ‘Khamoshi‘ with Salman very much. Manisha Koirala had Ovarian Cancer at the age of 42. And her treatment held in New York. Doctors declared her cancer-free in 2015, after several surgeries and chemotherapy.
#2 Sonali Bendre– Metastatic Cancer
Sonali Bendre has fought the battle against metastatic cancer. She gave this information on Twitter. Sonali Bendre underwent treatment in New York. She made her entry into the film industry with the film ‘Aag‘ released in 1994. After this, Sonali became quite famous in her films like ‘Sarfarosh’, ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’. She also acted in Shahrukh Khan’s film ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’. Sonali has appeared in many TV shows such as ‘India’s Got Talent’, ‘Indian Idol 4’ as a judge.
#3 Irrfan Khan- Neuroendocrine Cancer
Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan also revealed his diagnosis of neuroendocrine cancer last year. He said, “It’s been quite some time now since I have been diagnosed with high-grade neuroendocrine cancer. This new name in my vocabulary, I got to know, was rare, and due to fewer study cases, and less information comparatively, the unpredictability of the treatment was more. I was part of a trial-and-error game.”
#4 Lisa Ray- Blood Cancer
In 2009, the Indian-origin actress was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma (another type of blood cancer). Lisa Ray fought cancer for over a year and became cancer-free in 2010. Actress Lisa Ray got the most popularity from Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s song Afreen Afreen. Lisa started her film career with the 2001 film Kasoor. Recently Lisa Ray’s first memoir ‘In Close to the Bone’ has been released. In this book, the actress has written the story of defeating cancer.
