The Red Dot Challenge is going viral on social media on World Menstrual Hygiene Day on 28 May. It is an effort to throw some light on menstrual hygiene and the importance of practicing it. Under this challenge, celebrities have been supporting this initiative of UNICEF by making a big dot of red color in their palm. This initiative has been made for awareness about the hygiene of girls during their periods. Also, the actress and beauty pageant winner Manushi Chillar who worked in the film titled PadMan with Akshay Kumar has taken initiative in this.
Manushi posting her picture with rate dot wrote – Every girl has the right to keep accurate information about her body. Without the right information, girls do not know how to manage periods with safety. It is time to break the silence. I am inviting all boys, girls, women and men to take Red Dot Challenge. Because menstruation matters.
After excepting the challenge many other actresses also came forward for this cause. Aditi Rao Hydari wrote’Put a period for shaming the period’ while Diana wrote’ it’s a time we put a period to period shaming coz there’s no shame in it’. Dia Mirza emphasized the use of products that are good for health and the environment, Diya further wrote that many people have started using menstrual cups. All these products should be accessible to the people and should be cheap so that more women can take advantage of them.
Also, actor Akshay Kumar sharing a tweet said “It’s been two 2 years now, when I made a movie like Padman. And now I am extremely happy that I was able to bring out this taboo topic in discussion to some extent. And hopefully, very soon we gonna break all taboos related to mensuration.
