Country Where a Blackbuck Poaching Case Needs 20 Years For Verdict, A Rape Victim Probably Needs Another Life For Justice And Forget About a Murder Case

Today news channels are flooded with Salman Khan news. The way they are giving a minute to minute report about the blackbuck poaching case is really ironic. Today Salman Khan sentenced Salman Khan to a 5-year prison term in the 1998 blackbuck killing case. The actor has also been fined a penalty of Rs 10,000. He is being taken to Jodhpur Central Jail, where he will be spending the night.

But do you really think he will spend 5 years in jail? No, he will get bail and will get paid in crores for his next Bollywood films. It’s really funny that how our system raises the issue of a poaching of two bucks so high that it garners all attention. Every day hundreds of animals are being poached, birds are being caught but then where are law system goes and why it doesn’t take severe actions as same as in a case which is related to a celebrity?

It is because the headlines that Salman Khan can make a common man can’t. Have you heard about Aruna Shanbaug? She was rape victim who spend 42 years in a coma as a result of sexual assault. You will get goosebumps after knowing her story. Only a few people know about her and obviously because she was not a celebrity and not even a blackbuck who was killed by Salman Khan.

Aruna Shaunbagh was a nurse, on an ill-fated night of 27 November 1973, Shanbaug was sexually assaulted by Sohanlal Bhartha Walmiki, a sweeper on contract at the King Edward Memorial Hospital. Sohanlal attacked her while she was changing clothes in the hospital basement. He choked her with a dog chain and sodomized her. The asphyxiation cut off oxygen to her brain, resulting in brain stem contusion injury, cervical cord injury, and cortical blindness.

And guess what police did? It registered a case of robbery and attempted murder. Sohanlal was caught and convicted of assault and robbery, and he served two concurrent seven-year sentences and it was ok till there. But he was not convicted of rape, sexual molestation, or unnatural sexual offense.

He was released from jail in 1980, means after 7 years. A rape convict and a murderer as Shaunbagh succumbed to injuries after 42 years being in a coma in 2015, spent only 7 years. Just imagine about our law system! After doing such a heinous crime Sohanlal had changed his name but continued to work in a Delhi hospital, and since neither the King Edward Memorial Hospital nor the court tried to find where he had gone. Aruna Shanbaugh is one of the victims who died without getting complete justice, references are many.

Talking about murder cases, just forget about the murder cases belong to common man they are pending from years, our law system is even failed to find out how celebrities like Divya Bharti, Priya Rajvansh, Sunanda Pushkar have died. Murders of journalists are common in our country. You won’t believe that India has earned the dubious distinction of being listed in the 2011 ‘Impunity Index’ prepared by an international media watchdog on the basis of unsolved murders.

But why we bother? After all, finally Salman Khan has served 5 years jail with eligible bail in blackbuck poaching case.
