Zaira Wasim is more famous for her controversies than films. She made a good start in the Bollywood industry with super hit film Dangal then went on to give another hit like Secret Superstar. Now her upcoming film is also a big banner film titled The Sky is Pink, starring Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar along with her.
But currently, the Dangal star is in news as recently she announced that she is quitting Bollywood industry forever as it interfered with her religion and faith. In a long post, she wrote the following, check out:
Her decision invited a lot of criticism and opened a fresh debate on social media where some supported her while others questioned her move. Famous people who supported the actress were former CM of Jammu & Kashmir Omar Abdullah, Kangana Ranaut’s sister Rangoli Chandel, Nagma and others. While there are others too who slammed her for making a personal choice by declaring it on social media. Check out the tweets:
But the one which is grabbing all the attention on social media is a tweet made by self-acclaimed film critic and most controversial KRK, he wrote:
And to some extent, we agreed to him. Why Zaira Wasim never takes the decision personally and privately? Why she declares everything on social media knowing the fact that it will create a controversy? She can say no to film offers on phone or any communication media, it is that easy! Then why she always tries to evoke debate in the name of religion on social media.
Other Controversies to her name:
Earlier, in January 2017, when Zaira met former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, she called her Kashmiri Role Model. This resulted in further criticism and Wasim receiving death threats. In response, Zaira issued an apology on her Facebook and Instagram account which she deleted shortly after. This added further fuel to the controversy.
In the same month, Indian sports minister Vijay Goel tweeted a message “Our daughters are breaking out of their cages and moving forward”, he commented this on a painting depicting two women – one in a hijab and another cowering in a cage. To which Zaira responded don’t connect her to the woman in Hijab as it is “such a discourteous depiction” and that women in hijab were “beautiful and free”.
In December 2017, Wasim alleged that she had been harassed while she was travelling on a plane. She alleged Vikas Sachdeva of Mumbai caressing her neck while she was asleep. But the accused told the other story and said he had been resting when his leg accidentally touched Wasim and that he had apologized to her before getting off the plane, which the actress had acknowledged. After his confession, there has been a support for the accused in the form of a signature-campaign by his neighbours and on social media pages with pages like ‘Justice for Vikas Sachdeva’. Wasim subsequently became a target of internet trolling.
