Actor Chadwick Boseman of the Hollywood superhit film Black Panther died of colon cancer. This sad news reached the fans through social media this morning, after which ‘Vakanda Forever, King T-Chala‘ started trending on Twitter. Bosman, who played the powerful role of Black Panther in Marvel Movies, died at the age of 43. Chadwick had been fighting a battle against cancer for four years. Earlier, Bollywood-Hollywood actor Irrfan Khan also died of colon cancer.
Talking about colon cancer, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the CDC of America say that it is the second most common cancer worldwide after lung cancer. Let’s know how dangerous this disease is.
What is colorectal cancer?
Bowel cancer and rectal cancer can occur simultaneously, it is called colorectal cancer. Rectal cancer originates in the rectum, the part of the large intestine closest to the anus. Most cases of colorectal cancer begin as small, cancer-free clusters of cells called adenomatous polyps. Over time some of these polyps become colorectal cancer. Polyps are often small, and symptoms of their occurrence are not visible. Therefore, doctors recommend to have regular screening tests. These tests identify polyps before they become colon cancer and help prevent colorectal cancer.
Causes of Colon cancer
Colitis infection viruses, bacteria and parasites can cause colon infections. When we eat something that is difficult for the body to digest, many types of chemicals are formed in the rectum during digestion, which can be the cause of infection. Apart from this, it can also happen due to wrong catering. Consuming more carnivores, eating less fiber may be the main reasons for this. Studies have found that smoking has a special role in increasing the risk of colorectal cancer and death.
How to prevent colon cancer?
- Especially if you have had colorectal cancer before, you are over 60 years old, have a family history of this type of cancer, you are suffering from Crohn’s disease. Some experts say that its investigation should be started after the age of 50.
- Make sure that your diet contains plenty of fiber, vegetables, and good quality carbohydrates. Limit or discontinue the intake of red meat and processed meat.
- Replace saturated fats with good quality fats, such as avocado, olive oil, fish oil, and nuts. However, this study found that although vegetarian individuals have a lower risk of developing cancer, the risk of developing colorectal cancer is higher in these individuals than in meat-eaters.
- Exercise regularly. A little exercise daily can reduce the risk of developing colorectal cancer.
- Keep your body weight balanced. A person is at increased risk of developing other cancers including colorectal cancer due to excess weight gain or obesity.
