11 Politicians Who Were Attacked by Throwing Shoe

Shoe throwing at politicians is considered as the form of protest many parts of the world. Some incidents were so high that grabbed the media attention from all over the world. Here is the list of 11 politicians attacked by shoe throwing.

1) George Bush

The incident that grabbed the attention of the whole world and the root of shoe-throwing incidents. It all started on 14 December 2008 with angry Iraqi TV journalist Muntadar al-Zaidi. He stood up during George W Bush’s press conference in Iraq and shouted “this is a goodbye kiss from the Iraqi people, dog.” and threw shoes on him.

2) Arvind Kejriwal

Ved Prakash, general secretary of Aam Aadmi Sena hurled a shoe on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal during a live news press conference on April 9, 2016.

3) Manmohan Singh

A man made an attempt to throw a shoe at then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at a rally in Ahmedabad in April 2009.

4) Nawaz Sharif

Former Pakistani prime minister Nawaz Sharif was delivering a speech at Jamia Naeemia in Lahore when a student hurled a shoe at him that hit his shoulder and ear, on March 11, 2018.

5) Imran Khan

Imran Khan is the latest one who is attacked by a shoe. A man was beaten up and handed over to police for hurling a shoe at Pakistan Tehreeke-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan during a political rally in Faisalabad, Pakistan.

6) Hillary Clinton

While giving a speech in Las Vegas, Nevada she was attacked by a shoe. Alison Ernst, the shoe thrower, gave no reason for her protest.

7) Wen Jiabao

Former Chinese President attacked by a shoe while giving a speech at the university’s concert hall, on Feb. 2, 2009. The attacker, Jahnke shouted, “How can this university prostitute itself with this dictator here? How can you listen to the lies he is telling? Stand up and protest.”

8) Tony Blair

It was not just a shoe for former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair. He was egged as well. Skirmishes broke out between protesters and police at the first public signing for Blair’s memoirs, with shoes and eggs hurled at the former prime minister, The Guardian had reported.

9) John Howard

The former Australian Prime Minister was attacked by two shoes during a talk show in 2010 while he was supporting the US-led invasion of Iraq.

10) Rahul Gandhi

A shoe was hurled towards Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi by a youth while he was addressing an election rally in Dehradun in January 2012.

11) Pervez Musharraf

The former President of Pakistan was attacked by a shoe by the person who was a member of a group of about 20 lawyers protesting against Musharraf on March 29, 2013. The protester shouted, “He’s a dictator and he should be hanged.”
