The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reports that an earthquake of a magnitude of 7.5 struck Mindanao, Philippines, on Saturday, December 2. As per the assessment by EMSC, the seismic event transpired at a depth of 63 km (39 miles). The American tsunami warning system quickly sent out a tsunami alert after the earthquake.

Waves are predicted to hit the Philippines at midnight local time (1600 GMT), according to a warning from the Philippine Seismology Agency, or PHIVOLCS. The waves can last for several hours, it said.
In the meantime, tsunami waves up to one meter (3 feet) are predicted to hit Japan’s western shore at 1:30 am on Sunday (1630 GMT on Saturday), according to Reuters, citing NHK.

According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 32 kilometers (20 miles) and a magnitude of 7.6.
The earthquake struck at 10:37 p.m. (1437 GMT). In light of the strong earthquake, it is unclear if the authorities will take any immediate safety steps or evacuate anyone.
