Months after the horrible three-train crash in Odisha that claimed over 280 lives, authorities in Andhra Pradesh reported that two trains collided on Sunday, leaving six persons dead and eighteen wounded. Three coaches of the Vizag-Raigad passenger train derailed when they collided with a special passenger train travelling from Visakhapatnam to Palasa that was halted on tracks between Alamanda and Kantakapalle near Kothsavatsala due to a lack of signal.

Images taken at the scene revealed the overturned carriages and the throng of people. According to railway sources, the loco pilot failed to see the signal, which led to the catastrophe. The Railways source further stated that the Delhi Railway Ministry’s war room is keeping an eye on the situation. The phone numbers for the East Coast Railway are now available.

PM Narendra Modi spoke to Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnav and took stock of the situation in the wake of the unfortunate train derailment between Alamanda and Kantakapalle section. Authorities are providing all possible assistance to those affected. The Prime Minister extends condolences to the bereaved families and prays that the injured recover soon, tweeted PMO.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Reddy has expressed his condolences for the lives lost in the collision.

“The CM expressed deep shock over the Kantakapalli train accident incident in Vizianagaram district. He ordered the officials to take quick relief measures and ensure that the injured get prompt medical services,” the Chief Minister’s office shared on social media.

“The Chief Minister advised to send as many ambulances as possible from the nearby districts of Visakhapatnam and Anakapalli and make all kinds of arrangements to provide medical treatment in the nearby hospitals. The details regarding the incident should be reported to him from time to time,” it further added.

Aswini Vaishnaw, Minister of Union Railways, called the Chief Minister on the mishap.

The Chief Minister notified him that rescue teams had been dispatched to the scene of the tragedy, and that the District Collector, the SP, and Education Minister B Satyanarayana were overseeing the relief and rescue efforts. He also informed the Union Minister that all preparations had been taken for the injured to be treated at the surrounding hospitals.
