Emergency Trailer 2 Released: Kangana Ranaut Brings India’s Turbulent History

Get ready to walk down memory lane with Emergency,  one of the most politically sensitive and long-awaited political dramas dropping in two weeks. The second trailer is out and directed by Kangana Ranaut. She is playing former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi whose intense and gripping trailer is a must-watch.

The Story and Its Relevance

The film marks the 50th anniversary of the 1975 Emergency, a period when democracy was tested in India.  Kangana has already stirred up a storm just with the way she has portrayed Indira Gandhi. It is quite amazing that she gives an almost replicant of the former Prime Minister, the voice, gestures, and authority she demonstrates is impeccable. The new trailer adds to the excitement, depicting key historical events, dramatic confrontations, and political tension that characterized that period. It extols legends, events, and sensations like the political phrase of Mahatma Gandhi “Indira is India,” which cemented her controversial leadership.

An incredible cast

It is not a movie about Indira Gandhi and her life or just about the period that this movie depicts. It brings an ensemble of important historical figures to the forefront. The film has a stellar cast including Jayaprakash Narayan (played by Anupam Kher), Atal Bihari Vajpayee (portrayed by Shreyas Talpade). Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw (Milind Soman), Pupul Jayakar (Mahima Chaudhary) who was Mrs Indira Gandhi’s closest friend for many years. Jagjivan Ram (played by the late Satish Kaushik): Another prominent Indian national from the independence movement who gave much after achieving freedom.

Not only is Kangana Ranaut starring in this film but she is also directing this lofty endeavour. Speaking about the film, she said: “After a long journey filled with challenges, I’m thrilled that Emergency will finally be released on January 17th. This isn’t just a story about a controversial leader; it’s about themes that remain relevant even today—power, resilience, and the importance of democracy. Releasing close to Republic Day makes it even more meaningful, as it’s the perfect time to reflect on our Constitution and our history.”
