It’s an exciting time for cross-border cinema as Maula Jatt 2 is set to release in India which is a Pakistani period action film. This is the first movie from Pakistan that will be displayed in the Indian theatres after a decade. The movie includes famous actors such as Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, and its director is Bilal Lashari.

Fawad Khan's The Legend Of Maula Jatt

The Legend of Maula Jatt will have a theatrical release in Punjab, India on the 2nd of October 2024. The original edition was launched in Pakistan as well as a few other countries in 2022 and was a huge hit. The news of its India release was shared by Lashari and the film’s Official Instagram. He shared a promotional poster with the caption. “Releasing in India, Punjab on Wednesday 2nd Oct! Two years in, and still house full on weekends in Pakistan! Now, I can’t wait for our Punjabi audience in India to experience the magic of this labor of love!.”The film will be released in India through Zee Studios International in association with Zindagi, the channel that recently reintroduced Fawad Khan to the Indian audience through the serial Barzakh. This partnership also adds to the relationship between the two countries’ entertainment industries.

About The Legend of Maula Jatt

It is predominantly in Urdu and Punjabi. And is said to have been made for 70 million US dollars–making it one of the most costly Pakistani films up to date. The Legend of Maula Jatt’s release in India is noteworthy because it marks the first Pakistani film to be shown in India since 2011. Featuring Humaima Malick and Atif Aslam. As soon as it was released in Pakistan in 2022, The Legend of Maula Jatt began to dominate the box office. And has now collected Rs 400 crore ($40 million) in worldwide sales making it the largest-grossing Pakistani film on record.

It is a contemporary adaptation of the 1979 legendary Pakistani film Maula Jatt which is highly appreciated and followed in the country. The new version of the film still has the same feel but with better technology, much bigger sets, and leading Bollywood and Hollywood stars.

The official IG handle of The Legend of Maula Jatt said “Still unstoppable after two years, The Legend of Maula Jatt releases in India from October 2, 2024, we will share the cinema list shortly.” Currently, there is a lot of curiosity regarding the movie in India, especially concentrating on actors Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan who are favorites in both India and Pakistan. Their popularity across the border also helps to build up anticipation for the movie.

     The Legend Of Maula Jatt

One of the representatives from the film’s team said, “India is a huge market for films, and we’re confident Maula Jatt will be well-received by Indian audiences.” Considering the current relations between India and Pakistan and the challenges of diplomacy they entail making films such as these is quite significant. In the past decades, cross-strait cultural interactions such as movie releases and singers’ cooperation have been stopped because of the deterioration of relations between the two nations, especially after the attacks. Despite these political issues, Fawad and Mahira remain popular figures in India, and now the news of their film’s release has reignited fans’ curiosity and excitement. The release of The Legend of Maula Jatt in India now makes one hope for better relations between the two nations through arts as cinema can always change sides of political relations.
