Finland breaks into recession in the last quarter; Sweden faces a dip in GDP

Finland is now in the troublesome recession period in the concluding quarter of 2022 while on the other hand the economy of Sweden has also faced economic slowdown, as stated in the official statistics on Tuesday.

This is the second successive quarter of the Finnish GDP which have immensely dropped and showed a negative growth of 0.6-percent drop, which delineates the technical meaning of a country in the recession period.

Finland’s economy is facing a ceaseless inflation which have touched an increase of 8.4 percent in January, also the special reference to the war in Ukraine which have lead the path to the economic instability in the country, Statistics Finland said.

It is expected that the consumers and the business ventures will be facing less confidence in the near future and these “weakened expectations began to be realised in the latter half of the year,” the office stated.

From October to December, the intensity of Finnish exports decreased by 2.9 percent against the last quarter while imports too stooped by 2.4 percent.

Throughout the year, the Finnish economy grew by 2 percent when compared with the previous year 2021. =

While Sweden has not seen two consecutive declines in GDP, its economy still shrank, the national statistics office SCB said.

Swedish GDP went below by 0.2 percent in the fourth quarter, against the similar quarter in the previous year.

“The decline is being felt in many parts of the economy, with broad declines in business investment and household consumption,” Jessica Engdahl from SCB mentioned in a statement.

The SCB further averred that for the entire year of 2022, the economy of Sweden rose by 2.6 percent.

The Swedish central bank is forseeing a diminished fall of 1.1 percent this year, aligned with the average rate of Europe as mentioned in the fresh forecast launched in the early February.

In Finland, the government and the central bank have estimated a steep decline in the growth pf GDP in 2023, a change of 0.2 percent have been witnessed prior to the growth prospects in forthcoming2024 and 2025, as stated in the latest forecast in December.
