Having experienced dizziness on Saturday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was taken urgently to the hospital, according to his office, which also noted that it looked the seasoned Israeli leader was dehydrated.
According to his office, Netanyahu, 73, stayed at Israel’s Sheba Hospital where he was still undergoing tests.
Netanyahu visited the Sea of Galilee, a well-liked tourist destination in northern Israel, on Friday, according to a joint statement from his office and the hospital.
The statement claims that Netanyahu experienced “mild dizziness” on Saturday and that his doctor advised him to visit Sheba Hospital, which is close to Tel Aviv. Netanyahu’s seaside home in Caesaria, a coastal hamlet, is more than half an hour distant from the hospital.
“Preliminary tests came out normal and nothing abnormal was found,” the statement read. “The initial assessment is dehydration.”
Despite spending a brief period in the hospital last October after feeling ill during Yom Kippur prayers—a day of fasting for observant Jews—Netanyahu is considered to be in generally good health.
In a case that has vehemently split the country, he is facing various corruption charges. Israeli relations with the United States, its closest and most crucial partner, have been strained as a result of his government’s hardline policies toward Palestinians.
Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid wished speedy recovery of the political leader: wishing Netanyahu a “full recovery and good health.”
“Feel better,” Lapid tweeted.
