When ABCL started growing
When Amitabh Bachchan opened his first production company ABCL, the first work of this production was a TV show- Dekh Bhai Dekh. This show was very much liked by the audience. After this, ABCL started working for films. In the first year, Amitabh Bachchan made a profit of 15 crores, in 1996, the work of ABCL started to grow further.
Seeing the success of the company, Amitabh decided to take it further. Big B brought Miss World’s project for its production, but the company did not get any sponsors during this time. The Miss World event was going to be the first time in India, but at that time the Indian audience did not show any interest in this pageant. In such a situation, Amitabh had to bear all the expenses.
Big loss to ABCL
Some payment was yet to be made for the Miss World pageant. In such a situation, the company incurred a big loss. During this time ABCL produced two films named ‘Tere Mere Sapne‘ and ‘Saat Rang Ke Sapne‘. A lot of money was spent on these films as Amitabh hoped that this would benefit the company and make up for the losses. However, nothing could be done because apart from these films there was a lot of release at the box office which included big star cast films like Raja Hindustani, Rangeela, Border and Dil To Pagal Hai. All these films proved to be a tremendous hit and Amitabh’s company faced a big loss.
Amitabh took big stars in these films, but these films could not work in front of the strong story of other hits. Even after this, Big B did not give up and brought the film ‘Mrityudata‘. The film proved to be a bigger flop than both of previous films. After this, news started coming that Amitabh Bachchan bank balance was corrupted. The situation became so bad that by 1999, Amitabh Bachchan’s house was on the verge of being sold.
Anil Ambani offered money
Amitabh did not even had the salary to pay to the servants at that time. There were also reports that Anil Ambani had spoken to help Amitabh with some money. However, Amitabh Bachchan, said that he just wants support not money. Amitabh Bachchan kept on brainstorming how to overcome this and in such a situation, he reached to Yash Raj.
Support from Yash Raj
Yash Raj was making a film ‘Mohabbatein‘ at that time. Amitabh reveals his problem and Yash Raj immediately agrees to give him the film. The cast of this film was ready and Amitabh’s role was first given to Boman Irani. After this, Boman was removed and the character of Narayan Shankar was given to Amitabh in the film. The film proved to be a hit but Amitabh still had to repay a lot of debt. After this, Amitabh got an offer to work in a TV show.
Big Turn in Amitabh’s life after a TV Show
This show was ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati‘. In those days the stars of the big screen did not work quickly on the small screen. However, Amitabh said yes to this show and Amitabh was paid a good amount for each episode. The show was a super hit and with it, Amitabh Bachchan’s stars started shining once again. With this money, Amitabh saved his house first and then cleared all the payments of Miss World. Since that time, Amitabh became the emperor of the small screen as well as the big screen.
