Sara Ali Khan has said that she and her younger brother, Ibrahim Ali Khan, have played up the fact that they are offspring of divorced parents in an effort to cast aspersions on them while promoting their newest movie, Gaslight. She revealed that when she and Ibrahim were younger, they had gotten gifts from their parents, Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh, knowing that they could feel bad about the divorce. She also jokingly admitted that, even at her advanced age, she still engages in it occasionally.
After 13 years of marriage, Saif and Amrita separated in 2004. They got hitched in January 1991. Ibrahim was born on March 5, 2001, while Sara was born on August 12, 1995. Two children, Taimur Ali Khan, 6, and Jehangir Ali Khan, 2, were born to Saif and actress Kareena Kapoor in 2012.
In conversation with Bollywood Bubble for promoting her upcoming Disney+ Hotstar film, Sara was asked whether she and Ibrahim had gaslit their parents. The actor averred, “Sometimes, we played the victim card. Like the obvious way, in my family dynamic. Like, ‘Abba is not here mummy, give this to us,’ at the age of 11, or, ‘Abba, you don’t live with us, give this to us,’ at the age of 15.”
In a 2021 interview, she had stated, “Even at the age of nine-year-old, I think I had the maturity to see that these two people living together in our home were not happy. And suddenly, they were much happier living in two new homes. For instance, my mom, who I don’t think had laughed in 10 years, was suddenly happy, beautiful, and excited, like she deserves to be. Why would I be unhappy if I have two happy parents in two happy homes?”
Sara plays a young woman who returns home to find her father missing in Pawan Kripalani’s film Gaslight. No one appears to believe her despite her suspicions of wrongdoing. The thriller also stars Vikrant Massey and Chitrangda Singh.
