The discovery of Mummy’s is considered to be the most interesting one. Earlier many mummies were found in excavation. But here we have shared the mummy of an iceman which is one of the oldest that was found in Europe. Check out the pics and details inside.

The Ice Man or you can call Otzi is an ancient man’s ice mummy, discovered in 1991 in the Tyrolean Alps on the Similaun glacier in the Ötztal valley at an altitude of 3200 meters. The age of the mummy is approximately 5300 years which was determined using the radiocarbon method. Scientists are currently continuing their research on the mummy.

After the mummy was taken to the laboratory, the researchers raised the temperature to 17.8 degrees Celsius to thaw it. The meltwater was examined for the presence of bacteria, thanks to which the ancient mummy was so well preserved. After a nine-hour autopsy, the mummy was returned to its original temperature, –6.1 degrees Celsius, and placed in a glass sarcophagus. The research took place at the South Tyrol Archaeological Museum in Bolzano, Italy.

Knife and “scabbard” of the “ice man” were also found

An axe with a copper blade testifies that the “ice man” held a high position in his tribe. After examination of the stomach, it was established that Ötzi took food eight hours before his death. Remnants of bran, roots, fruit and muscle tissue of two types were found, corresponding to chamois and deer meat. He used two arrows for hunting and self-defense. At the time of death, Ötzi was approximately 165 cm tall and weighs 50 kg and the studies say that he might be approximately around 40 years of age. Not just the axe but also shoes made of grass, deer skin and bear skin was found. This shoe is considered one of the oldest ever discovered by scientists.

The mummy is in the South Tyrol Archaeological Museum in Bolzano, Italy. The room is maintained at a temperature of 17.8 degrees Celsius and a humidity of 98.5% – to simulate the ice sheet that protected the mummy for five thousand years.
