The Uttar Pradesh government has stated that women would be entitled to free bus travel from midnight on August 30 to midnight on August 31 as a special gesture to commemorate the joyous occasion of Rakshabandhan. This initiative’s direction was released earlier this week.
According to the state’s joint secretary, Kalyan Banerjee, in his announcement, this privilege would be available in all 14 districts of the state and will be made possible by Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs). In a number of districts, including Lucknow, Kanpur, Meerut, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Moradabad, Jhansi, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Shahjahanpur, Agra, and Mathura-Vrindavan, women would have access to free transportation services on city buses.
This is not the first time the state government has provided free bus transit for women on Rakshabandhan, Banerjee highlighted in the directive. This custom was started by the administration a number of years ago, and it is still a kind deed.
