On Thursday, the official lineup for the 2023 Cannes Film Festival was released, and only one Indian movie was included. Kennedy by Anurag Kashyap has been chosen for the festival’s Midnight Screenings segment, which runs from May 16 to May 27.
Kennedy was chosen to screen as part of the festival’s Midnight Screenings, according to the Cannes Film Festival’s official Twitter account. “KENNEDY by Anurag KASHYAP #SéanceDeMinuit / #MidnightScreenings #Cannes2023,” mentioned in the post. Sunny Leone, Rahul Bhatt, and Abhilash Thapliyal star in Kennedy. The movie’s specifics have been held secret.
Anurag’s films have been at the famous Cannes Film Festival before, but this is not the first time. In 2012, the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, an independent part of the festival, included a screening of the filmmaker’s now-iconic feature film Gangs of Wasseypur. A standing ovation was given when Ugly was screened in the Directors’ Fortnight category at the Cannes Film Festival in 2013.
Reacting to the news, filmmaker Sudhir Mishra wrote in Twitter, “You can’t keep Kashyap down for long . Our guy is back !!!!” Filmmaker Arati Kadav tweeted, “This brings so much happiness @anuragkashyap72 in his home turf with Scorsese, Kore-eda and Wes Anderson. So happy so proud. So much love and joy.”
The world premieres of new movies by Martin Scorsese, Wim Wenders, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Todd Haynes, and Hirokazu Kore-eda will take place at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The Main Competition jury will be led by Swedish director Ruben stlund, whose film Triangle of Sadness won the Palme d’Or last year. The festival’s opening film is Mawenn’s historical drama Jeanne du Barry, featuring Johnny Depp as Louis XV.
