Filmmaker SS Rajamouli’s period drama RRR amidst the array of accolades and recognition, failed to make an impact at the BAFTA 2023 nominations on Thursday.
The movie was enlisted in the Non-English film category, but later could not find its spot amongst the top five nominees. The final nominees includes: All Quiet on the Western Front, Argentina 1985, Corsage, Decision To Leave and The Quiet Girl.
This was a rare miss for the film which recently won the Golden Globe Awards for the Telegu track “Naatu Naatu” and Critics Choice Awards for best foreign language film and best song respectively.
Interestingly, on the other hand, an Indian documentary, All That Breathes helmed by Shaunak Sen made it to the top nominee’s list and will be competing against All The Beauty And The Bloodshed, Moonage Daydream, Fire of Love and Navalny.
The 2023 BAFTA award ceremony had kick started on February 19, hosted at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall. The organisers earlier disclosed the 24 categories, which comprised of best film, cinematography, casting, documentary, film not in English language and documentary feature film.
