The prime ministers of Canada, Australia, and New Zealand expressed their support for immediate international efforts to bring about a long-lasting truce in Gaza in a joint statement on Tuesday.

“We are alarmed at the diminishing safe space for civilians in Gaza. The price of defeating Hamas cannot be the continuous suffering of all Palestinian civilians,” they added in the statement.

They stressed that a truce could not be unilateral and that Hamas had to free all of its hostages and quit using Palestinian civilians as human shields.
