Residents in riverfront towns in England that were impacted by the heavy rains that swept across Europe this week attempted to reduce flooding on Friday, but officials issued a warning about possible rising levels in the next several days.

    Severe flooding across England

Over 1,000 homes and businesses were inundated by a violent storm with strong gusts, burying neighborhoods in muddy water, according to the Associated Press. Lands for agriculture were flooded, buildings and cars were swamped, and streets became rivers. A landslide and floods caused disruptions to train services on many lines that started in London and traveled to Wales across southwest England.

Following the floods, The Telegraph stated that there would be icy conditions in the area the following week, which prompted driver’s alerts. A cold weather alert was issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) on Saturday.

Evacuations carried forward by the military

Rescue crews were called in to assist with the flooding-related evacuation attempts in Marlborough, providing relief to people in need, including residents of a retirement facility.

“The Town Council is working closely with the emergency services and Wiltshire Council to respond to the flooding situation in Marlborough,” The Telegraph quoted the words of a spokesperson at Marlborough Town Council.
