The follow-up to 2003’s Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. is called Lage Raho Munna Bhai. Sanjay Dutt played the protagonist in this Rajkumar Hirani-directed movie that did incredibly well at the box office and is still very well remembered by people today. However, did you know that Hirani completely reworked Lago Raho Munna Bhai’s script? Lyricist Swanand Kirkire explained the rationale behind it in a recent interview.

The script for Lage Raho Munna Bhai, which espoused Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy, was initially written differently. Swanand Kirkire, a lyricist, recently told Mashable India, “Lage Raho Munna Bhai was to be made in a certain way, but then Sanjay Dutt got a haircut in the middle of the film’s shoot. So, it created some tension and the film’s shoot was stalled.”
He further added, “When the shoot of the film was stopped, Raju rewrote the entire film. Then we see the film we see.”

Dutt plays Vidya Balan’s opposite in the movie. She was in character as a radio hostess. In Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., Arshad Warsi repeated his role as Circuit, which he excelled in.
Rajkumar Hirani revealed in a previous interview that he was first apprehensive to cast Dutt as Munna Bhai. However, after seeing the actor’s huge success Vaastav, he was persuaded.

He added, “I saw Vaastav 10-15 times, and upon observing his performance in the film, I got convinced that Sanju would do a fantastic job of playing Munna.” Sanjay Dutt’s blend of a gentle interior and a tough exterior, together with his endearing grin and drooping eyes, convinced the director that he was the perfect fit for Munna Bhai.
