IND vs SA: Venkatesh Iyer likely to open for India as pressure mounts on Ruturaj Gaikwad

While the fans call out to know whether Umran will debut tonight or not, one of the major concerns that are getting missed out is the opening pair.

India has believed and sent their young duo since KL Rahul seemed unavailable for the series but the major question remains unanswered “Where is Venkatesh Iyer?”

Ruturaj has certainly not played up to the mark in both the T20Is and with talents like Venkatesh Iyer and Deepak Hooda in the squad, a chance should be given to others.

Venkatesh Iyer has not played both the games in the T20I series but should have a reason to be called into the squad. While the critics believe that Hardik is likely to take over Venkatesh Iyer’s permanent position but the analysis has a different output.

Hardik Pandya is performing as a middle-order all-rounder who has not been given an adequate chance when it comes to bowling. The fans in the first T20 in Delhi witnessed Hardik Pandya’s single over throughout the match and whereas Axar bowled his complete spell but in the second T20I, it was Hardik who bowled three and Axar had to bowl just 1 with Chahal completing his spell.

India is unsure of whom to send for bowling despite having various talents in the eleven. Coming to the openers, Ruturaj is likely to be benched as Venkatesh Iyer has the chance to get an opportunity to prove himself. Since Hardik’s arrival, Venky has been benched but ultimately his role of opening the match for team India has nothing to do with Pandya’s middle-order role.
